Ich bin gerade dabei meinen Server etwas umzugestalten - bisher habe ich einen 1.6GHz P4 in einem Asus Entry-Level Serverboard mit PCI-X am laufen. HDD Subsystem ist ein 8 Kanal SATA RAID Controller mit 5*160GB -> 600GB Nutzkapazität sowie eine Raptor als OS Disk.
Der Rechner ist nicht nur Fileserver sondern auch mein Surf Terminal bzw. sogar "Hauptrechner" wenn ich mir überlege wieviel Zeit ich daran verbringe. Probleme macht der rechner keine nur langt die Performance nicht ganz wenn man etwas Multitasking betreiben will, die ATI Rage XL mit 8MB mag gerade so noch 1280er auflösung im 2D anzeigen, bei hoch Komprimierten videos bekommt man eine Dia-Show und der Stromverbrauch von 6 HDDs ist nicht gerade klein ...
Jetzt wo die 500GB disks schon für 140€ zu haben sind ist ein kleinerer Server möglich mit nur leicht geringerer kapazität - dafür aber viel mehr power und weniger verbrauch. Als Bonus will ich dann auch direkt meinen HTPC entsorgen ... der Fernseher steht ja nur gut 1 Meter vom Schreibtisch entfernt.
Als Plattform ist mir dann das ASUS M2NPV-VM aufgefallen. Gut ausgestattet, Preis ist OK und hat als einziges Board mit AM2 auch einen TV-Out (was iregndwie unverständlich ist, sollte eigentlich Standard sein). OC ist zwar rudimentär vorhanden aber viel ist nicht drin - ist mir auch nicht wichtig.

Besonders interessiert mich die Qualität vom TV-Out, 3D Performance in älteren Games (~ Q3A Engine und ähnliches), vCore Absenkung bei CnQ und langzeitstabilität - der Rechner wird dann für die nächsten Jahre überwiegend 24/7 laufen.

läuft bei mir mit einem 3800+ x2 24/7 als server unter debian. Ich habe 2 GB Ram drin und der Rechner hat auch ein paar dinge zu tun. Läuft wirklich sehr schön. VCORE absenkung, 3D und Tvout kann ich leider erstml nix zu sagen. VCORE kann man leider nirgendwo im Board einstellen (oder ich bin zu blöd es zu finden - habe aber schon mehrfach gesucht - leider nichts)
