Abit's WN-2S+ Motherboard Preview (Dual Opteron +SLI)

Komischerweise konnte ich noch keinen Thread dazu ausfindig machen...


PC Perspective has posted a little preview (with specs + pics) of Abit's WN-2S+ nForce4 motherboard. It not only supports dual Opterons, but it also features SLI and dual Gigabit ethernet...heck, it doesn't even require registered memory!

A little birdie tipped me off with some new information on a NVIDIA nForce4-based dual Opteron board from Abit that is due to be released in February. The board specifications are pretty impressive, and include SLI support as well as 4 SATA II ports and dual Gigabit ethernet connections. Even more interesting is the fact that I am told that this board does not require registered memory and will work with standard non-ECC and non-registered memory modules, saving considerable costs on system. And with the prices of 200 series Opteron processors dropping to nearly $200, a dual CPU system could be reasonably priced!

Sieht schon geil aus! Für den Normaluser / Gamer wahrscheinlich aber trotzdem recht sinnlos, da einfach zu wenige Non-Profi-Anwendungen SMP unterstützen - geschweige denn Games. Da fährt man mit nem "normalen" Sli-Board mit So939 performance-mäßig wohl besser. Zudem wird`s bei dem Abit hier mit OC wohl eher mau aussehen. Was mich wundert ist, wieso die Opterons hier mit unbuffered Memory klarkommen sollen?!?

Laut Abit braucht es wohl doch Reg.-Mem.:

"Memory:

- Four 184-pin DIMM sockets ECC Registered memory.

- Supports Dual channel DDR 400/333 (Max. 8GB)"
