Compatibility of our processors with third-party motherboards:

Upgrading to the newest Pentium(R) 4 processor:
Pentium 4 processors use architecture and form factors different from previous processors and cannot be used in boards/systems designed for any previous Intel(R) processors. Additionally, the 478-pin versions do not work in 423-pin - based motherboards, and vise-versa. However, both 423-pin and 478-pin versions have the same features, although the newer (and faster) Pentium 4 processors are offered in the 478-pin package only. The reason behind the pin package change is to electrically accommodate future Pentium 4 processors. Customers looking to upgrade their systems beyond 2 GHz should strongly consider purchasing a system that supports the 478-pin package.
